At the University of South Dakota, there are three possible LLEAP tracks:

 

1. The Bachelor's of Liberal Studies

  • Get full teaching certification in the state of South Dakota.
  • Lakota language and culture is the focus of this major.
  • It is suggested that you do a teaching minor, so that you have options for your career.

2. The Teaching Minor in Lakota Language.

  • Get full certification in another subject in the state of South Dakota.
  • Add a Lakota language teaching minor to your certification.

3. The K-12 Lakota Languages Education Endorsement for teaching Lakota Language only as per South Dakota statute ARSD 24:15:06:29

  • This endorsement does not lead to full certification.
  • You will only be eligible to teach Lakota language and culture.
  • This endorsement is recommended for those with an existing college or advanced degree, who may want to change careers, to permit them to contribute to their communities by teaching Lakota language and culture for the long or short term.
